One of my boyfriend’s lake trip requests this year was a big batch of my homemade granola. This is the same guy who previously referred to granola as “birdseed"--we've obviously come a long way. Anyway, I took his approval as a green light to share my easy homemade granola recipe with y’all today.
Granola is one of my favorite foods to make from scratch for two reasons:
- It’s simple to make and very hard to mess up. A crucial combination for those who are cooking-averse like myself.
- It’s much healthier than the store-bought versions which are often laden with sugar and chock full of hidden “mystery” ingredients. When you make granola at home, you are in full control what ingredients it contains and can therefore tailor it to your taste and make it better for your body.
Here’s what I do:
Simple, right? The best thing about this recipe is the freedom to get creative with it. I've tried this base recipe with different sweeteners, oils, spices and add-ins and found that as long as you keep the proportions the same, the combinations are endless. Usually, I cook a double batch, keep half in a mason jar and freeze the rest. One of my best friend’s moms shared that trick with me—granola freezes wonderfully! Who knew?
I hope you enjoy—let me know if you test it out!
Do you like granola? What is your favorite "homemade" recipe? I'd love to hear!
